At the craft show last weekend, I mentioned to my friend Beth that I'd like to make an apron. I thought the mother daughter ones that my friend Jodi made were adorable, but more complicated than I wanted to sew. I came across this one on Pinterest that I thought was just perfect for what I wanted.
Here's the steps I took to make it.
Cut the leg (around the crotch area) away from the belt area. Then cut down the front seam of that detached leg. Mine had a light pressed fold down the front, so I followed that line. To trim the arm holes, I folded the material in half & eyed up what I thought might be enough curve & matched them.
I sewed bias tape (binding) around the edges so the denim fabric wouldn't ravel. I decided not to trim the bottom of the apron, where the original denim hem is frayed. I thought it gave it a little texture. I folded the 2nd package of bias tape in half, then sewed down the middle to make the ties for the neck and sides. (The ties are sewed to the back of the apron, with just enough stitches to firmly hold them in place.)
I used Stitch Witchery to adhere the front jean pocket to the apron. I didn't want to put my sewing machine thru all those layers of seams and denim. So, now there is the actual front pocket to hold things, along with the front pocket being a pocket (I didn't adhere the top, left it open.)
I cut out the D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) letters (using an iron-on denim patch) on my Cricut machine. Then I had to add glitter somewhere, so the letters are outlined with the "Diamond" Stickles. My hubby thought it was supposed to be my name!???? DIY looks like DIX? Hhmmm.......
The cute finished apron!!
You'll notice the button hole from the jean belt is in the upper corner. That's because I started cutting the fabric down the seam and about 2.5 inches into cutting, realized I wasn't supposed to be cutting there. I needed to cut down the front of the jean instead. So, to hold it together, I adhered this over the top of the "oops" slice. A little mistake just turned into a cute embellishment!

AWESOME DIXIE ! I love it !!!and imagine, seeing you behind the sewing machine !!! Cute apron and GREAT JOB! ! !
